BN-015-Tinovul Țesna Împuțită (Grădinița) Wetland

General information

Tinovul Țesna Împuțită, located at 893 m, is included in the Bârgău Mountains, and is located, administratively, in the commune of Lunca Ilvei, Bistrița-Năsăud county. From a biogeographical point of view, the ecosystem is integrated into the boreal level, the peatland being mesotrophic. The surface of the ecosystem is 17.14 ha.

Restoration works

12.04.2024The time has come to carry out restoration activities for the two peatlands in Bistrita-Nasaud. The first is Tinovul Teșna Împuțită, where artificial drainage during the socialist period has left its mark on the peat. Creating dams to retain water in the peat bog was one of the restoration measures implemented. A billboard and several tourist orientation signs have been installed to increase the visibility of the peat bog, especially as it is close to the Via Transilvanica route.

Creating promotional materials

2.2024 – In order to promote the peatland ecosystems associated with the NWPEAT project, several distinct informational and promotional materials have been created for each peatland. In this regard, Teșna Împuțită Peatland has a digital brochure and a billboard that will be placed on-site.

Restoration scheme – Tinovul Țesna Împuțită

25.02.2022 – To restore the functions of BN-015-Tinovul Țesna Împuțită (Grădinița), peatland ecosystem, it is envisaged to achieve an optimal hydrological balance and improve the state of the ecosystem. The main pressure affecting this wetland is drainage.

2.05.2022 – Challenging in terms of accessibility, the two peatlands located in Lunca Ilvei, on the administrative border with Suceava County, have specific characteristics to mesotrophic peatlands. Tinovul Grădinița and Tinovul Câmpeilor are covered with swampy wild pine. The NWPEAT project team also took photographs, hydrological measurements, and identified existing species in both peatlands.

4.08.2022 – The habitat 91D0*. Bog woodland occupies almost the entire area, being represented by a taiga with Pinus sylvestris. The phytocenoses belong to the association Vaccinio uliginosi – Pinetum sylvestris, with much Sphagnum. Rare species such as Drosera rotundifolia, Scheuchzeria palustis, Empetrum nigrum have completely disappeared from the peatland area. Drainage channels need to be blocked to save what is left of this heavily degraded peatland.
