Bistrița-Năsăud – Tinovul Câmpeilor
BN-007-Tinovul Câmpeilor (Grădinița) Wetland
General information
Tinovul Câmpeilor, located at 895 m, is included in the Bârgău Mountains, and is located, administratively, in the commune of Lunca Ilvei, Bistrița-Năsăud county. From a biogeographical point of view, the ecosystem is integrated into the boreal level, the peatland being mesotrophic. The ecosystem area has 17,23 ha.
Restoration works
13.04.2024 – The second peat bog in Bistrița-Năsăud County restored through the NWPEAT project is Tinovul Câmpeilor. Just like the nearby peat bog, the main issue is artificial drainage. Several natural wooden and earthen dams have been placed on the existing channels in the bog. Their purpose is to retain water within the peat bog. Additionally, an information panel and several tourist signs have been installed to enhance the visibility of the peat bog.
Creating promotional materials
2.2024 – In order to promote the peatland ecosystems associated with the NWPEAT project, several distinct informational and promotional materials have been created for each peatland. In this regard, Câmpeilor Peatland has a digital brochure and a billboard that will be placed on-site.
Restoration scheme – Tinovul Câmpeilor
25.02.2022 – To restore the functions of the BN-007-Tinovul Câmpeilor (Grădinița) peatland ecosystem, it is envisaged to achieve an optimal hydrological balance and improve the state of the ecosystem. The main pressure affecting this wetland is drainage. The access road through the northern part of the peatland is not an obstacle to the natural drainage existing between the northern and southern parts of the peat.
Field documentation – Tinovul Câmpeilor
2.05.2022 – Challenging in terms of accessibility, the two peatlands located in Lunca Ilvei, on the administrative border with Suceava County, have specific characteristics to mesotrophic peatlands. Tinovul Grădinița and Tinovul Câmpeilor are covered with swampy wild pine. The NWPEAT project team also took photographs, hydrological measurements, and identified existing species in both peatlands.
Habitat mapping – Tinovul Câmpeilor
4.08.2022 – The predominant habitat found in this peatland is 91D0*. Bog woodland. The Drosera rotundifolia population is concentrated in two old drainage channels and in the area of a former water body near the center of the peatland. Tinovul Câmpeilor has a much more typical, better preserved, and more valuable flora from a conservation point of view than the nearby Tinovul Grădinița. The herpetofauna is represented by several species of amphibians and reptiles.
The footsteps of autumn … in Tinovul Câmpeilor
21.10.2023 – A new autumn monitoring campaign took place in Tinovul Câmpeilor. In addition to the water samples taken, other local landmarks were identified. Some traces of a tourist trail still remain, even though the information boards have been destroyed. The lower number of days with precipitation also resulted in less consistent hydration compared to the 2022 outflow.
